Review April 2015: (Mackenzie & Aiden, aged 8):
"We thought the workshops were great, I especially loved the clay workshop where we made a castle, but you could make any type of house. I made a castle called The Monkey Castle, it was full of monkeys and I even made some small ones to sit around it! We had to draw it first and then make it with clay." (Aiden,8)
"I loved the Clay Castles workshop but I also really liked the drawing prints one too. We got to draw 4 pictures and we made them into prints using this special paper. I really liked that you didn't just do one piece but you got to do a few. The teachers were helpful and asked us lots of questions about our work, we had to describe it to everyone in the class too.... I would also like to do some cartoon drawing so I might try that next holidays." (Mackenzie, 8)
The kids had a great day, they did 2 workshops, Clay Castles and also a printmaking workshop. Staying for the day meant they needed to bring lunch and they loved that they walked around to Lambert Park at lunchtime for a bit of a play before returning to the gallery for the afternoon session. What they brought home was amazing! The Clay Castle has pride of place on the dining table.
Art Est. is a lovely place to spend the day, it has a great vibe and I even feel like it could make an artist out of me (and that's saying something!), the art school rooms are bright and light with everything well organised and at their fingertips. I thought the workshops were great value at $50 each, the kids loved it and are keen to return to do some more classes and I love that they want to try new things. They want to make some more clay animals though, the clay workshops were certainly a hit.
