Sydney's Inner West
Located next to WatervieW in Bicentennial Park, Cafe at WatervieW caters for families, couples or groups with a friendly, casual atmosphere and they have a kids menu!
This kid-friendly cafe (complete with Ikea highchairs) is a great option for breakfast, lunch or anything in between.
With a generous covered eating area, full of tables of all sizes, you can easily find something for your crowd. The kitchen serves breakfast until midday and lunch until 4.00pm.
A high tea is available at the cafe also, it must be booked 48 hours in advance however.
During school holidays there are cooking activities for kids at the cafe too! Make your own pizza or bake and decorate cookies anyone?
The ultimate cafe with a park! Enjoy the gorgeous parklands of Bicentennial Park and have a great meal also. The kids can enjoy the facilities of this amazing park, hire and bike and check out the bike tracks or have some fun getting wet in the waterplay fountains or just relax and enjoy the Village Green.
During the school holidays, Cafe at WatervieW can help you entertain the children with fun activities.
While we spent the day at Bicentennial Park we decided we should check out the cafe at WatervieW too. It's such a luxury having a cafe at a park (a luxury we love!) and not only can you get a great coffee but a full hot breakfast or a sit-down lunch if that's what you're after.
The venue itself is located within the WatervieW function centre complex, on the end closest to the playground. It has ample seating outside but well covered. We were there on a pretty busy school holiday day and had no trouble finding a table for our group of six.
The Cafe serves breakfast from 8.00am till midday and then lunch till 4.00pm. There is a kid's lunch menu also served until 4.00pm.
Breakfast options look yummy, choose from Maple spelt toasted muesli, yoghurt and fresh fruits w/ honey ($7) or a Breakfast burger w/double bacon, double egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and tomato relish ($10!) or eggs pretty much any way you like them! We will definately be back for breakfast in the near future.
We did have lunch though.. we tried the Beef burger w/cheese, bacon, egg, tomato, beetroot, onion and aioli ($17) and the Asian style chicken and prawn salad w/tomato, onion, capsicum, carrot, cabbage and crispy rice noodles ($15), we also had the Cheesy Chips ($8) from the kids menu. The main meals were great, very tasty and a decent size, the staff were happy to modify it also because goodness knows we can't possibly eat a burger with aoili on it! The kids Cheesy Chips, were just chips with cheese melted on top and while they didn't look that appetising they tasted ok.
The Breakfast and Lunch Menus had a great selection of food and what we tried was really good, the kids menu was a bit unimaginative - some would say so are kids(!) but it basically consists of pasta or deep fried options with chips which will probably suit most kids but this parent would prefer the odd vegetable or even a sandwich option! BUT on the plus side it's great that they even make the effort to have a kids menu at all.
The coffee was great and there is also a selection of pastries and sweet treats if you're just there for a snack. They have a great selection of ice creams in the freezer - perfect for a hot summer day! AND we will be back to check out the High Tea! You must order in advance but it looks like a great deal at $45 for two people... how good does this look?
You order and pay at the counter and then they give you a buzzer... this means you don't need to be sitting at the cafe eating area and can go back to your picnic spot and wait for your pocket to vibrate - awesome!
