Sydney's Inner West
Affectionately known as "The Peoples Pub", Dick's is a Balmain institution. Keeping it real since 1874, it's famous for its relaxed, down to earth atmosphere and friendly (and kid-friendly) service.
This typical and traditional Australian suburban pub has everything a pub should have, a dark and slightly pungent front bar, a great burger on the menu and an awesome beer garden. Built in 1874 by John Dick it has stood the test of time in an area which has over twenty hotels.
We love Dick's Hotel! This traditional pub is a great option for families with it's beautiful "organic" beer garden. It's a huge space with lots of different seating options, so you'll find something to suit your group.
We've been lucky enough to have both a lunch and a dinner here recently and both were very different yet equally enjoyable experiences. Lunch was a quiet "working lunch", we had the cured salmon salad ($20) and the chunky greek salad with lamb ($22) and both were delicious and perfect choices for a warm afternoon in the beer garden. It was incredibly relaxing sitting in the leafy surrounds and enjoying some sunshine.
Dinner was excellent also. We booked a table a couple of days before and that worked well. Our table of 4 adults and 4 kids were very comfortable and the kids could wander around a check out the surrounds, the beer garden providing endless fascination and lots of nooks and crannies to explore. The food was excellent and came out pretty quick, we ordered the sticky chilli barramundi ($26), a pork cutlet from the specials board (Yum!) and the chicken parmi ($23), for the kids, the cheeseburger ($9) and pizza ($9) were popular options and there wasn't much left on those plates! Of course the ice-cream with milo ($4) was pretty popular too!
All in all Dick's has our stamp of approval! Plenty of space makes taking the pram a breeze and means the kids can stretch their legs if they like. The kids menu is well priced and has some popular options. Freshly squeezed juices are a nice option on the menu too (and they'll mix it with vodka if you want!). They're also a dog-friendly pub so you can take the entire family with you if you like!
