Sydney's Inner West
District sports ground, toilets, home ground of the Newtown Jets. Great for running around with the kids and dogs.
Henson Park was opened in 1937. The site was a former brickworks. Its first major event was the 1938 Empire Games, the forerunner to the Commonwealth Games in which the venue hosted cycling. During the games, crowds regularly exceeded 40,000. The velodrome surrounding the playing field was removed during the late 1970's and replaced by a grass running track used for local school athletics carnivals.
These are the grounds where the movie 'Footy Legends' with Ahn Do was filmed.
Game starts at 3.00pm.
VB beer, Garlo's pies, sausage & steak sizzle and an absolutely fantastic (and inexpensive) place to take the family and kids during the football season! All the kids get to go onto the field at half time to kick the footy around - great opportunity to mingle with the Newtown Jets if you're a fan. Takes you back to years gone by - football ground still with the character of the 70's and 80's.
