Sydney's Inner West
A tiny restaurant serving great Malaysian food in Strathfield.
Ho Jiak is a tiny (think almost hole-in-the-wall) but totally authentic taste of Malaysia, squeezed into a sliver of Strathfield Plaza. They serve authentic Malaysian food including everyone's favourite Chicken Satay, Roti Canai, Penang fried Char Koay Teow, Nasi Lemak, Laksa, Nasi Goreng and Mee Memak.
Ok, so we were poking around (the not very inspiring) Strathfield Plaza and came across Ho Jiak the other day. Always up for Malaysian food we decided to partake!
This place is tiny and they've managed to create an authentic looking Malaysian hawker stall in a narrow sliver of the food court in Strathfield Plaza. There is some seating however if you've got kids in tow, take away is our recommendation, it's squeezy! The food court of Strathfield Plaza also has seating right outside but it's pretty basic and in our opinion you're better heading off to a local park like we did to sample these delights! You could choose Bark Huts Reserve.
We chose our favourites Rotic Canai($12.80), Char Koay Teow ($12.80) and Mee Mamak ($12.80), we would have had satay but it wasn't ready but looks oh so good ($8.80 for 4). The food was excellent, having recently been to the food capital of Malaysia, Penang, we were in heaven!
For the kids, well just about every kid will get stuck into Chicken Satay skewers, Fried Rice or noodles right? I am yet to meet one that won't eat all your roti either! They'll love it, especially when eaten in one of the gorgeous parks in Strathfield.
