Sydney's Inner West
Illi Hill is a new cafe on the scene in Marrickville. Taking over Con and Mary's corner store, when they retired after 40 years, Illi Hill has great coffee, delicious food and caters for the kids - what's not to love!
Named "Illi Hill" because it is at the top of the hill on Illawarra Road, this cafe has something to please every palate. With locally sourced produce (think Feather and Bone, The Bread and Butter project, A C Butchery etc), and a seasonal menu filled with delicious options, you will leave this cafe happy.
They also cater for the kids! There are great food options for the kids (kids breakfast is $7.00 and includes a glass of milk and fruit and your choice of toast, or toast and eggs), yummy smoothies and a kids toy corner.
Love it! This cafe looks pretty small from the outside but is deceptively big! Kid friendly, it's got a cool vibe that just makes you want to stay and eat another course!
December 2014: I've been lucky enough to eat at Illi Hill twice recently! The first time, my tribe of kids piled into a window seat and proceeded to create their own lunch menu - thanks to the patience of one of the owners! I ordered the Triple Cheeseburger, which was very tasty, and I didn't need dinner that night! The kids ate cheese and tomato toasted sandwiches and bacon sandwiches, washed down with a berry smoothie - there wasn't much left on their plates. The kids were also entertained with crayons, paper and a collection of toys in the kids corner.
My second visit was for breakfast, and again, I wasn't disappointed. The free range ham and egg roll was delicious, and I had scrambled eggs, with a side of mushrooms - pure indulgence! We will admit to a bout of order envy when the table next to us received their Ricotta and Buttermilk hotcakes with a saffron poached pear - it looked amazing, we seriously considered having a second course!
Illi Hill has a great relaxed feel about it, and it's nice to see a few little glimpses of Con and Mary's Corner store, with the vegetable scales still hanging and the fruit and vegetable sign in the window.
Located directly across from the ever popular Henson Hotel, Illi Hill is rarely seen without a crowd outside now the word is spreading about their great food and coffee.
A definite must to visit with or without the kids.
