Sydney's Inner West
Sideways Deli Cafe, operated by the sisters Jacqueline and Danielle, who have a passion for great food and coffee.
With a modern, relaxed, cosmo feel Sideways is a great choice for the whole family. There's a kids menu and colouring pencils available for kids and also a toy box. There is indoor and outdoor seating (outdoor has more space for prams).
The food is excellent and the coffee is always top notch.
The moment you approach this modern, relaxed inner west café you can feel its warm and homely vibe. Sun-drenched, bright, and always buzzing (especially on weekends), you’ll often find this delightful corner of Dulwich Hill sprinkled with families, kids, and parents groups enjoying its fine cuisine and a friendly atmosphere, and sometimes even the family pet indulging in their own bowl of water or two.
The owners, and sisters, Jacqueline and Danielle have been running the family business for about six years now, and one of their main focuses, and daily delights, is serving and meeting families from all over Sydney.
With loads of kiddie comforts including highchairs, a toybox, pencils and paper, staff who go out of their way to make you comfortable (they’ll even move things around to fit in your pram), indoor and outdoor seating, plus a divine sweet and savoury ‘all made of the premises’ menu, we’re sure you’ll love this place. Their kids breakfast includes a fried egg w/ baked beans and toasted soldiers for $7.50, however they are always happy to run through child-friendly food options with parents, but, if you know exactly what your little guy or gal wants and it isn’t on the menu, they’re more than happy to whip it up for you.
The adult ‘taste sensations’ don’t disappoint either. Love their gorgeous Di Lorenzo coffee, and breakfast menu including signature green eggs scrambled with homemade pesto and fetta, with tomato and a thick slice of buttered Vienna toast or their popular ‘Fiveways’ breakfast with bacon, chipotles, mushrooms and eggs. And for lunch there’s the homemade dips or sirloin steak sandwich with beetroot sauce, so many delicious options to choose from.
And to top it all off, after your snack or meal, you can always grab a take-away coffee, wander across the road, set up camp on a park bench and watch the kids play in the lovely spacious Johnson Park and playground in Dulwich Hill. (see our review of “Johnson Park”).
