Sydney's Inner West
With it's iconic chimneys identifying it's former incarnation as a brickworks, Sydney Park is both instantly recognisable and one of the Inner West's best assets. Located in St Peters, at the corner of Sydney Park Road and the Princes Highway, Sydney Park is 40 hectares of open, kid friendly space that the whole family can enjoy - even the family dog!
Sydney Park has something for everyone. Within it's confines are one of the best playgrounds in Sydney, amazing trails, viewing decks and paths through lush, native vegetation, green rolling hills, native wetlands and the Sydney Park Cycling Centre. The park also contains a cafe, The Sydney Park Kiosk, venues available for hire and BBQ and toilet facilities. It has endless places to picnic or just to relax enjoying the view. The park also has some accessible areas and plenty of car parking.
The playground is excellent and pretty unique. It comprises a series of slippery slides - one for every size! It also has giant, elevated sandpits, climbing spaces, many swings, a suspension bridge, a climbing net and see-saws. The playground is set in amongst beautiful native landscaping with dry creek beds which give the impression of being in a true bush setting. The playground is located close to the Barwon Park Road carpark and the Sydney Park Kiosk.
A series of wetland lakes are located within the park which make it a great place to watch all types of wildlife. These lakes are dual purpose, also providing a collection, filtration and distribution point for storm water collected from surrounding areas. Beautiful landscaping and viewing platforms make these too an interesting place to explore.
Sydney Park is also home to the Sydney Park Cycling Centre. This is a miniature road network complete with traffic lights and road signs, designed to teach children (and adults) about road and cycling safety. The Cycling Centre has been recently refurbished and has a brand new children's bike track with wider paths, challenges such as hills, curves and bridges and also some new additions to encourage imaginative play. The centre comprises the Sydney Park Community Room which is available for hire.
In the north-eastern corner of Sydney Park lies the Alan Davidson oval which is used for cricket and AFL games. The Sydney Park Pavillion overlooks the oval and is also available for hire.
Every Saturday at 8 am the St Peters parkrun provides a free 5km run for all abilities. Register to get a time, kids are welcome!
Sydney Park is a dog off-leash park.
With a bicycle track (including working traffic lights), a picturesque lake and wetlands, fabulous outdoor café and a futuristic playground, this has to be one of the best parks in Sydney.
The wetlands are lovely - ducks to feed, a wooden bridge, and a great walking path.
Bring your kids, bring your dog and bring your friends. Use the facilities or simply stand on the top of the hill and take in the amazing view or slide down it on a cardboard box! Don't forget the kids kites, bikes, scooters and a picnic blanket - you'll spend the whole day here!
