Tella Balls Dessert Bar, Dulwich Hill

A mecca for those with a sweet tooth! Think doughnuts filled with nutella, gorgeous cakes, gelato, crepes, ice cream doughnuts..... and a great coffee. Your one-stop dessert shop!

This is the flag-ship Dessert Bar for Tella Balls and was founded by the former owners of Foodcraft Espresso - creators of the infamous Tella Ball MIlkshake!

They've certainly got their Nutella on here, the menu is 100% dessert, there's no savoury here to ruin your sugar fix! The menu includes:

  • Waffles
  • Pancakes & Crepes
  • Gelato & sorbet
  • Tella Balls
  • Cronuts & doughnuts
  • A great range of dessert cakes

There's even Tella Lasagne and of course the famous Tella Ball milkshake. If you're a fan of the chocolatey flavours of Nutella, Kit Kat, Snickers, Oreo, Reese, Cadbury Flake, Maltesers or Kinder then you'll find something here!

Parking is easy in the Seaview Street carpark, directly behind the building (4P) and you can walk through the building to get your fix! And, if you've decided not to eat dessert first then Zeus Street Greek is right next door!

February 2016:

It was opening day on Monday, Tella Balls Dessert Bar finally opened their doors, of course we had to give it a try!

The hardest part about stepping into this place (apart from sticking to the diet) is deciding what to indulge in! There is so much choice! They have a take-away counter for those who need to grab and go or order, grab a table and your delciousness will be brought to you.

There is inside and outside seating, those with prams will be better outside as there's plenty of room out there. The service was friendly and efficient - pretty good for their first day I'd say! The decor is modern, with the majority of the decor comprised of display cases and fridges of gooey, chocolatey, Nutella goodness! The walls are filled with phrases and slogans such as "Life is Short, Eat Dessert First" and others, which will definitely help you justify your visit if you feel the need!

The place was humming, I guess you'd expect that on it's opening day, though I can't see it slowing down. A visit to the Tella Balls Dessert Bar would make a great after school treat, an after dinner stop or just a nice meeting place for a coffee with friends.

The menu includes waffles, pancakes and crepes, cronuts, Tella Balls, a range of classic desserts and cakes such as Tiramisu, gelato and Gelat-dough (doughy gelato shaped as a donut and served on a stick!) There's also a full range of drinks including the Tella Ball Milkshake ($10) and their new creations, the Crazy Cronut Shakes ($12) and pretty delicious coffee!

Tella Balls serves an amazing range of gluten free cakes including mango cheesecake and Brazilian peanut butter cake. Their sorbet is 100% vegan made with only real fruit, all their gelatos are house made, in fact just about everything is made on the premises and in many cases while you watch! The Tella Balls are made off-site due to the demand for them - wow!

We felt like we had to sample widely to make sure we could accurately comment so we chose a kids Kinder gelato ($4.50), a crepe (it had fruit in it!), a coffee, a Gelat-dough ($7) and a Tella Ball ($4.50). The gelato was lovely, big chunks of kinder chocolate pieces and served in a kids size cone. The crepe was incredible (but I've never met a crepe I didn't like), banana and strawberries covered in a generous splash of Nutella, wrapped in a lovely thin crepe and served with Vanilla Bean gelato mmmmm, what's not to like? It is HUGE though and would easily satisfy two.

The Tella Ball was very popular, we got an original Nutella filled one, and I'm already being asked when we can go back! The Gelat-dough was a fun surprise and the kids loved it! A great coffee rounded out our dessert.

It was fun, heaps of original desserts - stuff you just don't find anywhere else, and yes it's not a place you'd want to visit everyday but it would certainly tick all the boxes if you've got a dessert itch that needs scratching!
