Sydney's Inner West
A great local pub that's had a makeover and a new menu!
The West Village is the old White Cockatoo Hotel that's changed hands and has been re-branded, fully renovated inside and out!
We took the whole crew to the West Village one freezing cold Saturday night, we left warm, with full tummies and big smiles!
The old White Cockatoo has been completely re-worked but still manages to maintain an air of "keep-it real", it feels warm and welcoming with a gorgeous beer garden area complete with lots of greenery and fairy lights. There was plenty of room for the little ones to wander, they even had a little dance! Big tables, bench seats and gorgeous original brick and timber make this pub just a pleasure to hang out in.
The Menu has also been completely re-worked by the new owners. We sampled the Eye Fillet Steak which is served with steamed veg and sits beautifully on a crunchy potato & leek rosti and served with a red wine jus ($32). We also ordered the 'Trinity' Porterhouse Steak, served with greens and fries and a choice of sauce ($24), the Stuffed Chicken Breast ($24) and a Salmon Fillet ($24) which was delicious. The Cheeseburger ($18) also went down well!
The kids Menu at the West Village is a simple affair, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Crumbed Fish & Chips or a Grilled Chicken Sub with cheese - all $8. We had the pasta and the sub and both were a good size and well received, the red sauce all over the little faces would seem to indicate that they enjoyed it too! There is a new kids menu coming soon apparently.
All in all we had a lovely night, there's something for everyone here, great food, heaps of beers on tap, lots of lovely, different little areas to dine out with your group or catch up for a drink. There were plenty of kids around and they were all having a ball! The reno is amazing, creating a wonderfully warm and inviting venue but they did forget to reno the bathrooms! Head into those for a serious 70's flashback! Too funny!
