KIDsize Living Review

February 2016:

We had never been to a Zeus Street Greek before and when their latest store opened in Dulwich Hill we thought we'd better give it a go and test out the kid-friendliness of it all! We're glad we did!

The Dulwich Hill store (their fourth) opened in the second half of 2015 and boasts a sleek, modern, chic fitout which suits their simple and 'true to their roots' food philosophy. The menu is comprehensive, yet sleek and simple too, filled with slow-cooked deliciousness that packs a flavour punch!

In terms of dining with kids, there's plenty of room for a pram in here and there's large tables too if you've got a group in tow! The self serve bar at the end of the restaurant has colouring activity sheets and crayons, so help yourself to silence!

For starters there's a choice of dips - and they've got all the favourites covered here Tzatziki, Tarama or Spicy Feta (all $6.50) or choose a Trio of Dips and get all three with their house made pita for $19.50. They also have a great selection of salads including their Aegean Slaw ($11.50) and a Green Bean Salad boasting green beans, fig, feta, herbs, roast almond, balsamic and olive oil ($13.50).

The Pita choice is such a difficult one do you go with the Uncle 'Tzimmy' Classic Pork or Chicken Pita (yes chips are wrapped inside that lovely pita) or The Zeus, as we did - a lamb pita with Aegean slaw, smoked eggplant, onion and parsley ($12.50). It was melt-in-your-mouth brilliant, succulent meat, tangy salad wrapped in a soft yummy pita, so good!

The kids menu is small with 3 choices, Chicken Pita, Lamb Pita or Calamari and Chips (all $8.50) We chose the Chicken Pita and it's great to get something sized so well for kids because lets face it cutting a gyros in half never ends well! It was received very well and declared "delicious" and while it was still a little large for a 2 year old, it was well and truly the right size for a child just a little older. There is the vegetarian Haloumi Pita option too and Gluten-free pita is available for a charge of $3.50.

If you want to ditch the pita all together then order a "Nude", their signature slow-cooked Chicken, Lamb or Pork served in a bowl with tzatziki and lemon on the side, most certainly the healthy option! (from $15.50). They haven't forgotten their traditional Greek desserts either Loukoumades (yum!), choose honey ($8) or chocolate ($9) and Bougatsa ($9.50) is also on offer. Although the Tella Balls Dessert Bar is right next door so if the Greek options don't float your boat then head next door for some doughy chocolate goodness.

We really enjoyed our meal, it was quick, fresh and the right size and oh so tasty! There's healthier options too if that's what you're after and there's plenty here for kids.
